Five IRGC Members Killed in Israeli Strike on Khorramabad, Iranian Media Reports

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Five members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in Israeli airstrikes on the western Iranian city of Khorramabad, according to a report by Iran’s Mehr News Agency on Saturday, as cited by Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency (AA).

Khorramabad, the capital of Lorestan province, had not previously been identified as a primary target in the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict, which erupted on June 13, 2025.

The strike on Khorramabad represents a geographic expansion of Israeli targeting, reaching further into Iran’s western provinces. Iranian state media said the fatalities were IRGC personnel, though no official names or ranks have been released as of yet.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian outlets also reported that two people were killed and four others injured in an Israeli strike on the city of Qom in central Iran. Both cities have now joined Tehran and other regions on the growing list of targets in Israel’s campaign against Iranian military and nuclear infrastructure.

The conflict began on June 13 when Israel launched widespread airstrikes on multiple sites across Iran, including suspected nuclear facilities and high-level military positions. Iran responded with a barrage of missile and drone attacks aimed at Tel Aviv and other locations within Israel.

According to Israeli authorities, at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured by Iranian missile attacks since the hostilities began.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Health Ministry has reported that at least 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 others wounded as a result of Israeli airstrikes.

The figures underline the intensifying human toll of the conflict, with both nations continuing to exchange fire amid international concerns about further escalation.

  • There's renewed debate on social media over the safekeeping of ancient Benin Bronzes that have been returned to Nigeria. It was triggered by Canadian-American political commentator David Frum who talked on X about predictions he had made that Benin artifacts returned to Nigeria would disappear. Nigerians X are among those now lashing out over his comments. It comes 24 hours after the Netherlands returned over 100 Benin Bronzes to Nigeria, more than a century after the culturally significant sculptures were looted. The handover took place at the National Museum in Lagos. The bronzes are part of numerous artefacts looted by colonialists who and held by museums in Europe. In recent years, Germany, the US, Ireland and Scotland have returned Benin Bronzes. #DWAfrica #nigeria

  • Did You Know? Before the onset of the war, the Igbo region had the distinction of being the most literate in Nigeria. In the early 1960s, the Eastern Region had achieved the highest school enrollment and literacy rate in the country. Between 1960 and 1967, a remarkable over 90% of children in the East were enrolled in primary schools. The presence of thriving missionary and community-led schools in the region was a notable feature. The establishment of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria's first indigenous university, in the East in 1960, was a significant milestone. It highlighted the Igbo people's strong emphasis on education. The Eastern Region's rapid development, earned it the nickname "The African Japan", driven as it was by education, trade, and innovation. This progress is all the more remarkable given that it predated the discovery of oil, the war, and federal allocations. It was a testament to the Igbo values of self-help, community, and knowledge. Now you know. The Igbo people have consistently demonstrated their pioneering spirit, not just in the realm of business, but also in education.

this mean that without the help of America Iran would destroy God's own state to say? This fight has opened many Africans eyes that no God will fight for anybody, that those with the highest weapons are God on earth. ~JTT

  • 馃帣 Russia's President Vladimir Putin took part in the plenary session of the 28th St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, National Security Advisor, Commander of the Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Bahrain Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Ding Xuexiang, and Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa Paul Mashatile also attended the session.

    Key statements:

Despite a challenging international landscape, Russia’s GDP has been demonstrating an annual growth rate of over four percent over the past two years, which is above the global average.

    • Commodities no longer play a defining role in Russia’s economic growth patterns. In 2023, Russia’s non-oil-and-gas GDP increased by 7.2 percent, followed by an additional 4.9 percent in 2024. These are solid figures exceeding the overall GDP growth rates.

    • Our strategic vector is precisely to actively and consistently transform the structure of the national economy, step by step. We have achieved a great deal in this area, but it is clear that moving forward is critically important, especially in light of the dramatic changes taking place in the world.

    • Annual inflation has already dropped to single-digit levels below ten percent. As of June 16, it stood at 9.6 percent. Of course, that is still high, but inflation targeting continues.

    • Over the past four years, employment in Russia has grown by 2.4 million people. Since October last year, the national unemployment rate has stabilised at around 2.3 percent, reaching a historic low.

    • In terms of youth unemployment, Russia ranks among the best globally, with a rate of approximately seven and a half percent.
For comparison, youth unemployment stands at around 16 percent in France and 11 percent in the United Kingdom.

    • Russia’s economy must become more technologically advanced. We must fully unleash a new phase of the country’s technological development. The key instrument in this regard should be the national projects aimed at securing technological leadership.

  • The Tanzanian media personality claimed Priscilla’s online activities are distracting her countrymen from what really matters; the country’s upcoming elections.

Priscilla Ojo has been strongly warned by Tanzanian media personality Mange Kimambi about her online activities with husband Juma Jux.

The Nigerian media personality who only just relocated to Tanzania following her marriage to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux has been sharing videos online of how she’s been settling into the Eastern African country.

    She wrote,

I'm appalled by your audacity! Referring to my daughter and her husband in such a manner, calling their content stupid, trying to drum fear and intimidation, this is unacceptable. As a parent, I've taught her to be confident and authentic. The Mkambala are very peaceful, but note i don't joke with my daughter.

Regarding the wedding rumors, its not your government who gave us money, it's a cultural tradition in my family, the wife's family cover costs, i wanted an elaborate wedding for my daughter in Nigeria and we the Nigerians gave her one.

I'm an activist, and as one, I stand by my principles and fight for what I believe in, without insulting anyone or targeting anyone, True leadership requires presence and courage. It's laughable that you, living in America, think you can dictate to my daughter and her husband, who are living their lives in Tanzania.

Keep my daughter out of your affairs. She'll post what she likes, when she likes, and how she likes. She doesn't need you to love her. She is very loved and well loved,

We protect our own..... Never forget that........

  • Burna Boy responded to criticisms after reports emerged that Burkina Faso’s leader Captain Ibrahim Traoré rejected his proposal to hold a free concert for the West African nation.

Online reports last week indicated that Burna Boy planned to stage a free concert in Burkina Faso to demonstrate his goodwill. President Traoré reportedly turned down the offer by explaining Burkina Faso required focused attention instead of distractions.

Social media responses to the Grammy-winning artist were mixed after news broke because some users mocked him for what they considered a public snub.

Burna Boy took to his social media platform to confront his critics who showed disbelief at the negative reception his intentions received.

I declared at the free Burkina Faso show proposal and although many supported it some fools surprisingly launched unbelievable negative remarks which shocked me.

He directly attacked those who spoke ill of him saying they had no authority to judge his behaviors or motives.

Burna Boy responded by saying those people lack any right to mention his name since they only contribute to the world through stupid comments or talking into their cheap ring light and phone.

The artist defended his humanitarian and charitable achievements across Africa by stating he does not need to justify his chosen work to anyone.

Although I receive no personal benefit from others and owe nothing to anyone yet this has never stopped me from achieving great work. My integrity is unquestionable. If you said anything negative then burn in hell,” he added.
