  • Iliyasu Isah’s NNPC Story: From Driver to Family Hero

When Iliyasu Isah joined NNPC Ltd. in 2012 as a container truck driver, he had no idea where this journey would take him. Neither could he have imagined that a career behind the wheel would not only transform his life, but also reshape his values, his pride in family, and his belief in the potential of women.

    Park that.

Over the years, Iliyasu moved up to become a driver for senior management. In his words, "All my bosses have been women and that experience changed my life.”

He was raised in a culture in which sons were more celebrated than daughters, so Iliyasu silently wrestled with feelings of inadequacy as the father of three girls. But something began to shift in the course of his years working for strong, intelligent, female leaders.

“They changed how I see everything… I now look at my daughters and feel nothing but pride,” he said. And rightly so. His eldest is 22 and studying Cyber Security at the university. The second daughter is 20 and is studying Public Administration. The baby in the family is 14, finishing secondary school, with big dreams of her own.

Iliyasu shared that because of NNPC Ltd., he has been able to train his children and many others in his extended family. He says it is an honour to be in a position to provide, but it’s also his responsibility as a first son.

He has become a pillar in his extended family; an image of what opportunity and dedication can produce.

“NNPC Ltd. has done everything for my family… Many people in my village have eaten from the fruits of my labour with this company. I will always be thankful,” he said.

I asked him what else he was thankful for. He smiled. Nothing prepared him for what happened at the handing over ceremony of thirty-five (35) hybrid Compressed Natural Gas-powered buses to the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (Pi-CNG). (You can read the story when you visit https://nnpcgroup.com/insights/nnpc-ltd-donates-35-cng-buses-to-presidential-initiative-on-cng-restates-commitment-to-cleaner-sustainable-fuel-alternative). The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, boarded his bus with VIP guests in attendance.

“I’ve never come close to any GCEO…. I’ve never been on GCEO’s floor,” Iliyasu said, his voice full of emotion. “But the GCEO shook my hand. Looked me in the eye to greet me. I’m so happy.”

That handshake spoke volumes. It affirmed what he has seen along his journey here: Every role matters. Everyone matters. Everyone can be seen.

Leadership isn’t male or female. It’s human.

  • If Your People Are Dying, President Should Be Ready To Die — Peter Obi

Presidential hopeful Peter Obi says being Nigerian president is a responsibility that should engender compassion and not nonchalance.

Obi, who was a guest on Sunday Politics programme, believes that a president should be ready to pay the supreme price if his or her people are dying.

“If I become president, I will use resources effectively. I cannot say: ‘buy a new jet’,” Obi said whilst accusing the Bola Tinubu administration of being unfeeling to the plight of the people.

“I don’t need one because I can go anywhere without a jet. I will not use ₦150bn to buy a jet when 80% of primary healthcare centres are not functioning.

“I was a governor, and for my first four years, I drove 406. For the rest of it, I didn’t drive bulletproof cars. Nobody will try to kill you if you do the right thing. It is when you do the wrong thing that you fear death.

“If your people are dying, you should be ready to die. The president should also be ready to die,” he said.

The former Anambra State governor accused President Bola Tinubu of being unfeeling to the plight of Nigerians. He said Tinubu chose to go on Christmas holiday in Lagos in December 2024 instead of visiting Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where several children died in a stampede at a Christmas party.

”There is no compassion; people lost their children who will lead this country in the future, and he went on a Christmas holiday.”

Obi also criticised Tinubu over the attack in Benue State, saying he went to Benue but failed to reach Yelwata, where suspected herdsmen killed scores and displaced thousands of people. Tinubu had explained that bad roads and floods prevented him from visiting the distressed community.

  • "You wouldn’t be President if Jonathan had crushed opposition."
~ADC Interim National Publicity Secretary and National Coalition Spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.

“The President needs to prove that he is truly a democrat. He must remind his men that if the Goodluck Jonathan administration had behaved this way, the APC would never have come to power in 2015, and he would not be President today”.

Former State Chairmen and key executive members of the ADC from the North East and North West zones were invited to a secret meeting with top federal officials.

“We have credible intelligence that this meeting is not for national security or peacebuilding.
“Its goal is to intimidate, coerce, and possibly recruit these individuals into a scheme aimed at undermining the opposition. This is not politics. This is sabotage.”

The motive is to create division within its ranks, delegitimise its new leadership, and derail its emergence as a credible alternative to the ruling party.

Attempts to woo or pressure party officials in the name of political engagement are nothing short of a “coordinated assault on Nigeria’s democracy.”

“This is how one-party states are born, through fear, coercion, and manipulation. It is now obvious that the Tinubu administration, having lost public trust, is unable to face a united and credible opposition. Instead of addressing the country’s challenges, it has returned to the old playbook of destabilising rivals.

The ruling party’s tactics were pushing Nigeria toward dangerous political terrain, and we vow to resist what it a desperate bid to silence opposition voices.

“This party belongs to every Nigerian who is tired of the lies, the hardship, and the manipulation. We will not allow a few desperate men to take the country backward. We will resist them through every democratic means available."

  • National Cathedral site to be
Converted into National Cultural Convention Centre

The government of Ghana has announced plans to convert the stalled National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC), positioning it as the flagship hub for Ghana’s burgeoning creative economy and cultural diplomacy efforts.

According to a policy document under the new 24-hour economy initiative for culture, creative arts and tourism dubbed “SH0W24”, the NCCC will be established in partnership with the AfCFTA Secretariat and is expected to become Africa’s leading venue for international exhibitions, film festivals, trade shows and summits.

Under SH0W24, the centre will serve as the crown jewel in Ghana’s creative economy infrastructure. It is projected to host large-scale events and exhibitions that will place Ghana firmly on the global cultural map.

Note : This project seems to be similar to the Accra convention centre project, which was ongoing under the previous administration at the trade faire site at LA. We hope the Accra convention centre has not been stopped and having two convention centres will not be a bad idea.

  • Tracking Down FCDA worker detained by FCT Minister Wike Over Leaked Land Allocation Scandal Involving his children

Last Friday, Mairiga Hassan Shaharu, a staff member at the Federal Capital Development Administration (FCDA), was unlawfully detained at the FCDA Police Post on the orders of Nyesom Wike’s Chief Security Officer (CSO). He was accused of leaking documents showing that the FCT Minister had illegally allocated large portions of Abuja land to his two underage sons, a scandal first reported by Peoples Gazette.

But the truth is that Mairiga doesn’t even have access to the Land Department’s internal systems. He works in the department that handles new land applications, not approvals or allocations.

I visited the police post tonight with two human rights lawyers, Rosemary HamzaHamza and Ak Musa. We were later joined by a third lawyer who had tried unsuccessfully to secure Mairiga’s release earlier. According to him, Wike’s CSO used a forged court order to detain Mairiga. The IPO on the case refused to show the order. When the lawyer managed to glance at it, he discovered the order came from a magistrate who no longer presides in the jurisdiction, a clear evidence of forgery and abuse of office.

After some three hours of confrontation by telephone, Wike’s CSO claimed they couldn’t locate the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), it was a ruse.

Meanwhile, the senior female officer in charge of the police post returned from Karu, summoned to calm things down, she immediately said she lacked the power to release Mairiga, because he was Wike’s personal detainee.

Eventually, the CSO called back and claimed Wike had changed his mind. He said the matter was now “beyond” him as it was now in the hands of the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Wale Ajao, the same Commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force who recently helped imprison a TikToker on behalf of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and his youngest wife, Regina Daniels. I called CP Ajao directly, but he pretended the detention was based on a valid court order—unaware that we had already confirmed the order was fake. He repeated the same tactic, “Go to court.”

Then came the most brazen move, Wike’s CSO called again and said Wike himself wants to see me at his office tomorrow morning alongside the detained worker. I asked him if he even knew who he was speaking to. I told him flatly, Wike couldn't have summoned me, he knew better not to make such a mistake and I will not be visiting his office.

Before ending the call, I asked the CSO, If Wike never allocated land to his children, why is someone being detained for leaking documents that supposedly don’t exist?

Wike should be the one under investigation for allocating public lands to his children, a clear criminal conduct, not Citizen Mairiga.
