  • Alleged N110b Fraud: Court Adjourns Yahaya Bello’s Trial to July 8

Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on Wednesday, adjourned the N110 billion fraud trial of the immediate past Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, and two others until July 8; October 8 and 9; and November 12 and 13.

Bello is facing trial alongside Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, on16-count charges bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering to the tune of N110.4 billion. The offence, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is contrary to Sections 96 and 311 of the Penal Code Law Cap.89, Laws of Northern Nigeria, 1963, and punishable under Section 312 of the same law.

At the resumed hearing of the matter on Wednesday, EFCC first witness, Fabian Nwora completed his evidence. Nwora is the chairman of EFAB Property which handled the property that is the subject of the suit. He told the court that he opened negotiations on the said property but that the negotiation was concluded by Segun Adeleke, who is the EFCC second witness (PW2)

Nwora had, at a previous hearing, testified that he was invited to the EFCC on Feb. 8, 2023. He explained that it was in regard to a transaction between Shehu Bello and EFAB Property on a property located at No. 1 Ikogosi Street, Maitama. He noted that it was Mr Shehu who approached him about the property.

Adeleke, led by the prosecution counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, reiterated that, in 2020, his chairman, Nwora, gave him the brief on the property, which Shehu showed interest in. He said the deal was concluded and N500 million paid for the said property.

When asked further what happened afterwards, the witness said Bello returned to their office, with the agreement. “He told me that he was no longer interested in the property as a result of the EFCC investigation.

“My chairman said he would revert after consulting with our company secretary,” he said.

Pinheiro asked about some documents issued to one Nuhu Muhammed in respect of a property in the Gwarinpa area. The witness confirmed that the documents were issued to the said Muhammed after he purchased one of the units of the detached bungalows belonging to EFAB Property Limited.

At that point, Counsel for Mr Shehu and the second defendant Joseph Daudu, SAN, objected. He said “My lord, there is a clear disconnect between the documents sought to be tendered and the foundation laid by the witness himself.” The prosecution, however, said the objection was misconceived and it was subsequently overruled by the Judge.

Justice Anenih adjourned the case until July 8 and Oct 8, 2025, for continuation of hearing.

He highlighted the achievements of the project, including the development of GBV Action Plans across all schemes for risk mitigation and survivor support, women’s leadership in Water Users Associations (WUAs), enhancing inclusive decision-making, and the economic empowerment of women through active roles in irrigation management.

Prof. Utsev added that the extensive capacity-building on gender sensitivity and GBV prevention, the strengthening of local capacitie, including youth champions and gender desk officers, cultural norm shifts through media, dialogues, and storytelling in local languages, as well as alignment with global best practices and World Bank environmental and social standards, are additional achievements of the project.

The Minister thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the World Bank, and the Project Monitoring Unit for their support in driving TRIMING’s success. He urged the replication of its gender and GBV initiatives in other projects and emphasized that achieving a gender-equitable, GBV-free society requires ongoing commitment and collaboration.

  • It's funny, but let it be known that most of you don't know Jumabee. This is very simple and straightforward. First, before I proceed, I will give you all a simple understanding of what the Jumabee show is all about. The Jumabee show has been going on for over six years now, and he has brought so many big artists from Lagos and other parts of the country to perform in Kogi State. This is the only way to push Kogi State up there in the entertainment world. This year's show comes with different developments, which include the Kogi Entertainment Summit. Before the entertainment summit, Jumabee asked his team to confirm every entertainer from Kogi State and within. Let me tell you, most of the people they confirmed their pictures for, Jumabee is not even aware of them. This is his way of uniting Kogi State artists. It's very wrong to use an artist's picture without informing their management, but it depends on the nature of the show. First, Jumabee is not collecting tickets for the show; the show is practically free. If you know want it means to fly over 20 Artist from Lagos State to Abuja, then transportation from Abuja to Kogi state. The security details, the feeding, the accommodation and other unknown bills, you will understand what this dude has been sacrificing all this years. Lets give Jumabee his flower... This hero that come from Kogi state has really tried. Peace✌

  • Nigerian Brilliance on the Global Stage! Anambra School Triumphs Over Top UK Schools to Win the Inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship

Forget the jollof rice wars — Nigeria just claimed victory in the battle of wits!

In an impressive display of intellect, St. John Vianney Science College from Ukwulu, Anambra State, has taken home the championship title at the UK-Nigeria Debate Competition, outsmarting some of the best schools in the UK and showcasing the brilliance of Nigerian students on an international platform.

They outperformed prestigious UK institutions like Central Foundation Girls’ School and Maghull High, ultimately securing the crown in a thrilling final against St. Augustine’s College, Jos.

Representing Anambra, Nigeria with passion were:
    Chibueze Jennifer Obiokafor Catherine
    Eneoli Benjamin Onwuegbusi Valentine
Guided by: John Onuigbo Supported by: Chiagozie Udorji
Vision led by: Rev. Fr. Ebube Muonso

One of the debaters, Jennifer, summed it up perfectly:

“We had faith in our preparation, trusted one another, and gave it our all. This proves that Nigerian students can compete with anyone globally.”

And here’s the exciting part: these champions will be waving Nigeria’s flag once again in London this December!

The topics ranged from technology to climate change — and guess who took the spotlight? Team Anambra!

A huge shoutout to all four Nigerian schools that participated — including Britarch Schools (Abuja) and Sure Start School (Abuja). We see you!

This is what happens when talent meets opportunity. This is the essence of Nigerian excellence.
