  • America has withdrawn $160m USAID support to Ghana – Franklin Cudjoe reminds Ablakwa for giving US Senator Jim Risch a showdown

The United States has reportedly withdrawn its USAID support to Ghana, ending an annual financial assistance package estimated at $160 million, according to Franklin Cudjoe, Founding President of IMANI Africa.

Cudjoe made the revelation in response to Foreign Affairs Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa who recently pushed back against comments from U.S. senator Jim Risch urging Ghana to settle debts owed to American companies.

“And by the way, America has withdrawn its USAID support for Ghana.

"The close to $160 million Ghana receives annually from the US will come no more, so really, you will not be subsidising Ghana,” Cudjoe stated.

He criticised the minister’s remarks as shortsighted, especially in light of evolving trade and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

  • National Cathedral site to be
Converted into National Cultural Convention Centre

The government of Ghana has announced plans to convert the stalled National Cathedral project into a National Cultural Convention Centre (NCCC), positioning it as the flagship hub for Ghana’s burgeoning creative economy and cultural diplomacy efforts.

According to a policy document under the new 24-hour economy initiative for culture, creative arts and tourism dubbed “SH0W24”, the NCCC will be established in partnership with the AfCFTA Secretariat and is expected to become Africa’s leading venue for international exhibitions, film festivals, trade shows and summits.

Under SH0W24, the centre will serve as the crown jewel in Ghana’s creative economy infrastructure. It is projected to host large-scale events and exhibitions that will place Ghana firmly on the global cultural map.

Note : This project seems to be similar to the Accra convention centre project, which was ongoing under the previous administration at the trade faire site at LA. We hope the Accra convention centre has not been stopped and having two convention centres will not be a bad idea.

The link to Accra convention centre, which is supposed to be the largest in West Africa upon completion
